Collection: Abbott Handerson Thayer
Abbott Handerson Thayer (August 12, 1849 – May 29, 1921) was an American artist and part of the Realism movement. He is known for his ethereal paintings of women as angels and is likely best known for his 'angel' paintings, for which his children feature as models.
Thayer was also a keen amateur naturalist and passionate bird-lover, who also experimented with taxidermy. Today, much of his work can be seen at the Freer Gallery of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Academy of Design, Smithsonian American Art Museum, and Art Institute of Chicago.
