Collection: Charles Dessalines D' Orbigny

Charles Henry Dessalines d'Orbigny (December 2, 1806 to February 14, 1876) was a French botanist and geologist. After originally studying medicine, his passion for the natural world eventually led him to working at the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris.

He is best know for his Dictionnaire Universel d’Histoire Naturelle, which is regarded as one of the most important natural history encyclopaedias of the period.
