Oscar-Claude Monet (14 November 1840 – 5 December 1926) was a French painter. He was the founder of the impressionist movement and was the leading French Impressionist landscape painter.

He frequently exhibited at most of the Impressionist exhibitions of the time, where the name of the Impressionist movement was taken from one of his works. Today Monet is regarded as one of world's most famous and important artists.
