Collection: Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (6 May 1880 – 15 June 1938) was a German expressionist painter and printmaker. He was a founder of the artist's group Die Brücke or "The Bridge" and was regarded as one of Germany's most talented Expressionist artists.
When the Nazis came to power in the early 1930's, his art was classed as "degenerate" and he became ostracized from German society and culture. This led to depression and eventually ill health. He eventually committed suicide in 1938.
